I need to get a helmet for my mountain bike, since I'm just now getting into it... any suggestions on a price range I should go for?

I'm a beginning, I guess.

Also, hook me up with a link.

go into a bike shop and try a few on, helmets have to fit properly to be effective, and each brand has a slightly different shape, so it's worth trying different brands, the cheapest/most expensive one isn't always the best one for you

$40 canadian will get you a decent beginner xc lid
$50 can will get you a good skate lid

Full faces start around $110 and go to about $650....anything in the 150-200$ range is a good place to start.

A friend of mine also makes this thing called a chin jock that helps to keep your helmet on your head.

Check it.

skate lids are better then xc lids when it comes to protection.

but they don't breath well and they are heavier.

Any helmet that hits your head properly will be fine it just depends how much you want to spend. You can find some good Giro helmets for cheap online or for sale at bike shops. My advice is check out pricepoint.com for Giro helmets. The reason for Giro is I've ridden with them for ages and they've protected me well. I love them.

I'm a Giro Fan too, I have an E2, a Remedy and XEN, for me there's no more helmet brands.

Some of the more expensive helmets are better ventalated, which makes them cooler.  They also weigh less.  I had a giro helment last season and it was very comfy and not hot.  however like a dumbass I did not pay my storage unit fee and lost the helmet.  Now I must buy a new one.
