so i want to take up mountain biking but i have no clue where to start as to what kind of bike to get. i'd be 100% new to it, but i've been riding bmx for a while and im pretty good at it so its not like im a beginner to the whole bike thing. just wondering what kind of bikes i should look at for riding trails, jumps, everything pretty much. what companies would you suggest? what BIKES would even be better. thanks

by the way, im 6'3" so i dont know if i might need a longer frame or what

i saw that you already have some responses on the sb.com site, but i figured i'd post here.  go with a dual suspension bike (my opinion).  if you buy brand new, your probly gonna spend at least $900 for a good starter bike.

you said you wanted a freeride bike.  i started out on an ironhorse yakuza aniki...fat tires, 5" of travel - front and rear, disc brakes.  great bike for about $900.

Since it sounds like you wont be going strictly downhill, you should get a bike with 2 chainrings (gears) up front

you should get a large or xl frame.   i'm 6'2 and it can be tough finding the right bike.
