Snow Park intends to transfer its expertise and creativity that has seen the resort become a progressive epicenter for snowboarding and skiing into a hotspot of freestyle and downhill mountain biking.
The new summer mountain bike operation named “Dirt Park NZ” opens on December 16th, 2006.
“Shifting into the business of mountain biking is an exciting and logical progression for Snow Park, providing an alternative use for the chairlift as well as opening up the new accommodation and restaurant facilities over the whole summer” said Snow Park NZ general manager Sam Lee, 27.
Specific freestyle mountain bike features will begin construction soon after the Snow Park winter season concludes on October 15th.
A creative summer team featuring the successful “443” crew who has built many of the freestyle features around the Wanaka area will be in charge of designing, building and maintaining the park. The goal of the designers is to create features at the park that everyone can ride, from beginners through to experienced riders.
The terrain at the resort is also supplemented by excellent downhill tracks leading from the resort down to the Cardrona Valley floor. Snow Park NZ will run shuttles from the 6km mark, with details to be confirmed.
Dirt Park NZ is set to open daily from December 16th to January 21st (excluding public holidays). Hours of operation are 10am to 4pm.
